The call of the Huer.
At the height of Mousehole’s fishing era, Huer’s would scale the cliffs and scan the sea for the distinctive hue of the pilchard shoals.
”Hevva!” they would cry, alerting the fishermen in the village.
The keen eye the Huer was vital to the success of the fishermen, and their cry was a signal of bounty throughout Mousehole.
The huer gallery honours Cornwalls industry and outstanding natural beauty. Celebrating the work of artists, makers, and craftspeople, the gallery is a contemporary space that champions Cornish identity, craft, and heritage.

Founded by Mother and Son, the Huer Gallery is deeply tied to its family roots.
Lois, a ceramic artist and founder of Mor & Teasel Pottery Studio, has worked in clay all her life. Introduced to the medium through osmosis, being the Granddaughter of the founding members of Troika Pottery, Lois turned her practice full-time after many years working in education.
With a background in music and audio engineering, Issac works in R&D for a HiFi speaker company in Sussex. A true fanatic for craft and heritage, he spent many of his teenage years building bespoke pictures frames for his Uncle Josh Sim, who ran The Mowzer Gallery from the same premesis where the Huer Gallery now stands.
